FAQ: How does it work? When you click a link, 2 things happen: 1) you hear music performed by the sponsoring artist 2) a statistic is generated, upon which a sponsoring artist will make a donation The music playing is essentially the artist's advertisement, and the amount of the artist's donation is based on the total number of times the song was loaded over a given month, not counting repeat loads by the same user in the same day. Because the total number of sponsors may vary from day to day, as well as the total advertising slots, the rates-per-songload are variable. Therefore, it is not possible to display the precise amount donated after each click, unfortunately. Note, as of this website's launch in May 2007, the sponsors are paying a flat donation rate to the charity. Does fandonation.com receive a fee or percentage? No. 100% of the sponsors' donations go directly to the charities. Who are the charities receiving the donations? This month's featured charity is ALTERNATIVE HOUSE--The Abused and Homeless Children's Refuge. Based near the nation's capital, they provide a number of services, including an Emergency Shelter for Teenagers, 24-hour crisis hotline, transitional housing for homeless young mothers, neighborhood-based support including after-school programs for 4th-12th graders, and walk-in counseling. To find out more info, click on http://www.thealternativehouse.org Why don't some of the songs play in their entirety? Fandonation.com leaves it up to their sponsoring artists as to whether they choose to feature a song preview or their entire song. This is due to the common practice of online music pirating. There does not exist a 100% secure method to prevent unauthorized downloading or recording of songs that are streamed online. So to avoid liability, we provide our generous sponsors the option of providing a preview, with the hopes that it will encourage users to support them by buying their music, instead of stealing it. Supporting the sponsors will help them donate more to the charities. How can I become a sponsor, and how much does it cost? If you are a musician and would like to post your music on our website, we ask that you make a minimum donation of $20 (US) to the charity, who will receive the payment directly from you. (At no time do the funds go through the hands of the website.) Contact the webmaster at fando3@fandonation.com first. We will then negotiate an amount of time to post your song(s) on the website, based on the amount of your donation, the number of other sponsors, and the current volume of web traffic. You can donate as much or as little as you want, as long as it meets the minimum amount.
